Royal Oporto White Medium Dry Port

Real Companhia Velha is the oldest wine company in Portugal, having recently celebrated 265 years of constant trading since 1756. Their youthful Royal Oporto Medium Dry White Port blends traditional varieties Malvasia Fina, Donzelhino Branco, Viosinh and Gouveio. After vinification and fortification, the wine is barrel-aged (native oak and chestnut tree) for an average of 3 to 4 years.

The result is a young, medium dry white port of clear, straw-yellow colour with very rich floral aromas and molasses. In the mouth, it is smooth and elegant with honey and hazelnut, white stone fruits, citrus and a touch of tropical pineapple. Perfect in warm weather when chilled as an aperitif, or serve long with tonic water, lots of ice and lemon wedges. A good partner for fruity desserts and pastries.

In the mid-18th century there was a crisis with the port market, and with the support of government and monarchy, a chartered company was created to break the monopoly of the English Trading Post, balance supply and demand, and ensure quality and authenticity. This soon became one of the Portugal's greatest sources of income, and was the origin of Real Companhia Velha. Run by the Silva Reis family since 1960, they are dedicated to the production of Douro wines and the study of environmental development and sustainability in the region.
