Finally, one thing we love here at Turton Wines is cheese!  Of course, mild cheeses need lighter wines than bold, strong cheeses. Bearing this in mind, here are some of our tried and tested suggestions:

Light, creamy cheeses such as Brie or Mozzarella love light wines such as Pinot Grigio or Pinot Noir

Crumbly white cheeses such as Cheshire, Wensleydale or Lancashire love an off-dry Riesling, Pinot Gris or Gewurztraminer. The sweet fruit of a Valpolicella Ripasso or Amarone will also match

Acidic, salty cheese such as Feta or Goats love youthful bright wines such as Beaujolais, Sauvignon Blanc or a Provence Rose

Nutty cheeses such as Gruyere or Manchego love full, nutty Chardonnays or Chenin Blancs; Vouvray works excellently. Or try full, tannic reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo or Sangiovese

Strong mature cheeses such as Cheddar or Gouda love deep wines such as Malbec or Zinfandel/Primitivo. For white wines, try a Viognier or Feteasca Regala

Blue cheeses such as Stilton love sweeter wines such as fortified port and dessert wines, or a medium dry white or red such as Semillon blends or Georgian medium-sweet wines

Smoked cheeses love Shiraz and Rioja Tempranillo wines, or try Feteasca Neagra or an Orange wine for something different

Flavoured cheeses vary, but look at their strongest element for wine pairing – fruit, herbs, spice etc.
