Ferro 13-Turton Wines

Great design can all too often mean diminishing quality, but the bright sparks at Ferro 13 winery are atypical. Founded by people linked by a strong passion for both wine and creativity, they bring outstanding wines with a modern flair to be sampled in good company. Their ever popular range aims to showcase the excellence of Italian wine and achieves this with aplomb.

Perfect for gifts such as upcoming Father's Day, these reds will bring a smile to any occasion. Gentleman is a Pinot Nero using grapes sourced from the hills of Pavia (Oltrepo'Pavese DOC) 130m above sea level. Vines are carefully monitored for optimum harvest in the final 10 days of September before Burgundy-style vinification in cone-shaped wooden vats. Delestage and batonage with a further 9 months on lees before release ensures a classic, elegant style of red fruit and berries with the multi-layered profile revealing itself slowly during tasting. Pair with light tomato pastas.

Hipster takes the Italian grape Negroamaro from the Salentine coast in Puglia IGT, 80m above sea level. Harvest is done in several stages from the peak of aromatic ripeness in late September to extended vine maturation in early October. These harvests are vinified separately and then carefully mixed for balance before a further month rest prior to bottling. Complex and mysterious yet openly easy-drinking, Hipster's profile brings red and black berries with notes of pepper and soft spice  Excellent with Basque tapas.

Nerd is their greatly named Sicilian Nero D'Avola wine using grapes from the Syracuse coast 50m above sea level. Harvested in September, grapes are macerated before fermentation to preserve the delicate bouquet and colours. Each plot's grapes are vinified separately to retain character before careful blending and 6 months on lees in steel. Soft in appearance yet decisive in character, Nerd encapsulates Sicily's flagship Nero D'Avola with a bouquet combining floral notes and hints of spices such as aniseed and cinnamon. Try with barbecued cuisine,

Finally, Hacker sources its Sangiovese grapes from the heart of Tuscany (Toscana IGT), the hills of Greve in Chianti 300m above sea level. Harvested in late Septemmber, each plot with its unique terroir is again vinified separately before polished blending and a month's rest prior to bottling. A truly modern Sangiovese, Hacker shows excellent structure and freshness alongside a robust bouquet of sweet violet and small red fruits. Perfect paired with the finest cuts of steak and grilled or roasted vegetables.
