Nikka From The Barrel is produced with the unique combination of complex blending of more than 100 different batches of malt and grain whiskies before maturing in used barrels. This "marriage" process harmonises all components, resulting in an exceptionally mellow taste. Bottling is controlled at 51.4% ABV that Nikka blenders determined through repeated experiments to achieve the ideal taste profile.
The result is a perfect blend of re-casked whiskies showing floral aromas with a touch of orange peel, apricots and oak. The rich palate presents a harmonious, deep cocktail of flavours that go from spicy oak and toffee to ripe fruit and soft vanilla. It finishes with a kick of fire and spice that leaves a warming aftertaste.
Nikka's founder, Masataka Taketsuru, was staying in Scotland in 1919 when he had the opportunity to learn how to produce whisky first-hand from Scotch craftsmen. As the first Japanese person to master whisky-making in Scotland, he brought his expertise back to Japan, building his first distillery in 1934. In 1936 the first pot still designed by Masataka and made in Japan began distillation. Finally in 1940 the first whisky from Nikka was launched.
