Organic and Biodynamic winery Altolandon sits in the centre of its 1100m high altitude vineyards of the Manchuela DOC of Spain's La Mancha wine region. Their Biodiverso wine hand harvests whole bunches of Petit Manseng grapes, before maceration on skins for 24 hours in 1000 litre clay amphora, followed by spontaneous fermentation. Flor is allowed to develop on the surface where it remains as a protective veil during its two years of ageing in amphora in contact with lees. No oak or added sulphites.
The result is Biodiverso - an amphora wine that is almost golden in colour with generous aromas of lemon, grapefruit, pear and toast, alongside almonds, butter and spice. This is a serious wine that shines through on the complex palate. Typical flavours of Petit Manseng (candied fruit, nectarine, key lime, grapefruit, even lychee), refined weight and freshness that carries through to the finish. A real food wine, try with turkey, spicy appetisers, roast lamb, braised pork or goats cheese.
Bodegas Altolandon is located inland north west of Valencia. The winery sits in the centre of 120 hectares of vineyards, at 1,100 m above sea level. Certified organic methods are used in vineyards; only natural fertilisers, green pruning and hand-harvesting. Vinification is as natural as possible with only the first press used, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation with native yeasts and little intervention. In-barrel malolactic fermentation, and French oak or clay amphora used for ageing.
