Portugal is known for its expertise in blending a wide variety of native grapes to create wines of premium quality with unique profiles that are distinctly Portuguese. This relatively small country takes its wine very seriously, with 13 wine regions over its length and breadth. Here we look at two of the most famous, Vinho Verde and Douro, and some excellent wines that really capture their essence. 

California's wine trails have long been admired in the modern winemaking world for its variety and quality, due to diverse terroir and winemakers' ability to bring out unique, high quality wines that are truly California dreams. Let's look at its history and some of the best modern producers.

We're feeling very lucky to have a great new selection of wines from the Cotes de Gascogne region. Our taste testings left us very impressed, and as one may well know, the French region is excellent for great quality and value. Let's take a look at what makes an exceptional Gascogny wine. 

Fresita Strawberry Sparkling (Chile 8% £9.85) One of our best sellers, this blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Moscatel stands out, with each variety fermented separately before blended for a second fermentation to obtain the final extra dry sparkling wine base. Finally small, freshly-picked, intensely flavored Patagonian strawberries (from the foot of the Andes) are added to the natural sparkling wine, making a wine full of intensity, refreshment and strawberry sweetness.

The Cabernet Sauvignon grape is the most popular for wine making in the world. Thought to be a natural hybrid of the robust Cabernet Franc red grape and the versatile Sauvignon Blanc white grape, it can be grown in a variety of climates, although it prefers warmer climes.
