Shakre Chardonnay epitomises the new wave of Australian Chardonnay and demonstrates why Margaret River in Western Australia has become the benchmark wine region for this varietal. Vinaceous Wines source grapes from un-irrigated old vine Mendoza clone Chardonnay from the sub-region of Wilyabrup, with 80% fermented in stainless steel to retain purity and 20% in French oak barriques for essential texture.
The result displays the strengths of modern Chardonnay, with bright, light and clean fruit aromas juxtaposing richer fruit flavours, added textural complexity, and subtle oak nuances. Citrus notes flow throughout to balance the tropical elements, and the mid-palate weight is brightened with a crisp, clean finish that lingers. A casual and uncomplicated accompaniment to many meals, try with flavourful fish, shellfish, well seasoned poultry and pork, Caesar salads or mild, fruity curries.
Rising to the modern mark, Vinaceous Wines was established in 2007 by marketer Nick Stacy and winemaker Mike Kerrigan as part of a new movement of non-traditional wine producers. They choose to source grapes from the best vineyards in the premium maritime climate of Margaret River, Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale, showcasing classic French varietals as well as championing emerging new varietals such as Pinot Grigio, Vermentino and Tempranillo.
