Krasna Hora Ruby Moravia, Czech Republic
Grape: Zweigeltrebe, Pinot Noir, St. Laurent, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon
This red blend wine from Morovia, Czech Republic was produced from organically grown grapes that were hand harvested with the wine undergoing pigeage in large oak and partly plastic casks, 1-month skin contact and malolactic fermentation in steel tanks followed by 8 months of ageing in oak.
This dry red wine is deep and bright ruby with hints of purple. The nose shows pronounced cherries and plums. On the palate, this elegant and velvety blend shows a gentle opulence of red and forest fruits with a hint of liquorice, fine tannins and acidity that gives a wonderful freshness and length to the wine.
The Krasna Hora winery sits close to the Slovakian border on sloping mountains, where the vineyards were founded by Cistercian monks in the 1200s- the site being chosen for the hill orientation and perfect loess soil. Classic French varieties have been growing there ever since, and the Krasna Hora team follow biodynamic farming using organic methods and natural soil supplements on the 7 hectares of vineyard..
