The village of Chassagne-Montrachet in the Cote de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy is an appellation of high international repute. Family winery Chateau de la Maltroye produce only the finest wines from their 15th century cellars. The best Chardonnay grapes from their vineyards are hand harvested for this wine, with 10 months' oaking and careful monitoring throughout.
This luscious wine shows intense aromas dominated by white stone fruit (peach, apricot) alongside ripe apple, white flowers and toasted notes. The creamy palate brings these together with excellent balance and a backbone of fresh minerality running through to the finish. Pair with shellfish, fish in white sauce, roast chicken, duck, stuffed mushrooms or crumbly blue cheese.
France's Chateau de la Maltroye has been under ownership of the Cournut family since 1940 and have vineyards of 15 hectares. The majority are dedicated to that white Burgundy classic, Chardonnay, with the remainder for Pinot Noir. With an average age of 50 years for vines, their wines show excellent full concentration and their aim is to offer a pure expression of the estate’s terroirs.
