Tikves Smederevka Belo

Tikves Smederevka Belo

This Macedonian white wine hails from the Tikves region of North Macedonia and is produced by the excellent winery of the same name. It showcases the fabulous native Smederevka grape with a small proportion of Riesling for good balance. Grapes are manually harvested from sustainably cultivated hillside vineyards with well drained clay soils.

Each variety was vinified separately and aged in stainless steel to retain the purity of fruit. Pale lemon in colour, it delivers delicate aromas redolent of white flowers, jasmine, tropical and stone fruit. The bouquet is underpinned by a refreshing palate with a streak of zesty citrus. Beautifully balanced with a clean and vibrant finish. Try with crab cakes, Chinese cuisine, seafood salads or light chicken dishes.

This classic Vinho Verde white wine is easy-drinking, aromatic refreshment at its best. Loureiro, Trajadura and Arinto grapes from the Lima Valley create a wine of the palest lemon appearance, with lots of fruity aromas. The palate hints at slight sweetness with soft spice, lifted acidity and lingering fruit on the finish. Try as an aperitif or with salads, fish, shellfish or cold courses.

Garganega is the main grape used to produce the premium Soave wine, and here Veneto's Castelforte bring us a full bodied, elegantly dry varietal.  Veronese grapes  are aged partly in stainless steel and partly in wood for an intense perfume of almond blossom, white flowers, citrus and light spice. Cloud Cuckoo Land White
From expert producers Wild & Wilder, the Cloud Cuckoo Land range explores well-loved Italian grapes grown in Australia. Their white is a blend of Fiano, Greco and Zibbibo, hand harvested from vineyards in Riverland, South Australia.

Gentle de-stemming and crushing follows, with the Greco and Zibibbo held on skins for 24 hours with separate cool fermentation and time on lees. This exceptional care creates a vibrant, textural white with hints of almond blossom, quince and ripe pear. Tangy, almost exotic but pithy and delicious. Great with chicken salads or try chickpea or tofu.

An excellent introduction to one of Eastern Europe's most popular red grapes, Feteasca Neagra ('Black Maiden'). A grape that can express itself in many ways, this example from the Paparuda range is easy-drinking yet fully satisfying. Mont Rocher Old Vine Carignan Pays D'Oc

A French red wine from the Pays D'Oc region of Languedoc-Roussillon, using grapes sourced from 50 year old vines. These Carignan grapes come from vineyards in dramatic hills and terraces above the Vallée d’Agly, where the famed black schist is interspersed with pockets of limestone to bring richness and power with a fresher, more finely defined character.

This traditional grape is given modern vinification, with 35% of the wine spending 3 months ageing with a small amount of French oak staves for complexity and roundness.  Cherry red in colour, this juicy wine shows an abundance of intense black cherry, blackcurrant and subtle vanilla on the nose. The palate is soft, smooth and full flavoured with a lively, spicy finish. Try with hearty stews and casseroles or roast beef dishes.

This careful production creates a wine of intense aromas and complexity that appears bright red with purple reflections, becoming garnet when aged in bottle. The bouquet shows red berries and morello cherry, alongside hints of cloves, vanilla, oak, and even pineapple. Rich, velvety and smooth on the palate with well-balanced flavours. Try with mushrooms, pasta, game, roasts, barbecued meat and mature cheeses.
