| Cellar Notes: | the grapes are harvested late in the season to achieve maximum ripeness. Once the fruit is crushed and de-stemmed the must is placed directly into the press and the resultant juice is then fortified with neutral grape spirit to between 18 and 19% alcohol. The neutral spirit is used to allow the primary fruit characters of the wine to express themselves. The wine is then placed into large oak barrels of between 500-4500 lts for maturation. |

William Chambers hailed from England and sailed on the "Blundell" to seek fortune and a future for his family in 1856, and this journey ended on the River Murray at Corowa, Rutherglen, in Victoria. Gold was discovered in this region in 1860, and William was fortunate to be living on an 80 acre block which had access to one of the leads, for which he was able to charge a fee for anyone wishing to dig for gold. This gave William and his family security and the much needed cash to begin farming and wine making. William's son Philip built a winery and cellar, and the property gained the name Rosewood after the pink rose buses that he planted. Rosewood's 3rd generation winemaker, William Henry, seriously put the property on the map by winning the Melbourne Wine Show 27 times over 37 years.
This is a very relaxed family owned winery, and Stephen Chambers, the 6th generation of this family to make wine at Rosewood, is winning plaudits from all around the world for the sublime, voluptuous range of dessert wines that they offer.
