Romania has a long history of wine production dating back to the third century AD and the vineyards of Recas can be traced back to 1447 when Milhail de Cioara purchased the vineyards from Ioan and Ecaterina Magyar for the princely sum of 32 Hungarian Forints. Cramele Recas own 700 hectares of vineyard planted with both local varieties such as Victoria, Muscat Hamburg, and Fuzz Ali as well as international varieties like the popular Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir. The vineyards are situated in the Banat region which benefits from a mild continental climate, with a slight Mediterranean influence, mild winters and hot summers, long autumns and short springs and vines are grown on the "Terra Rossa" soils which are rich in iron oxide and chalk. The winery has been substantially modernized to include state of the art equipment and a processing capacity of 7000Hl of wine. The quality is constantly monitored and guaranteed by an international team of experts. Their efforts have been rewarded by more than 100 gold medals at International and National competitions!
