Price £25.85

Stock Level: 2

Grape:Sangiovese
Strength:14.5%
Style:Full to medium bodied

Cellar Notes:Richly fruity, oaked, award winning Sangiovese Sourced exclusively from the lovely Rimini area of Emilia Romagna. The vines are planted with a density of 7000 per hectare and trained with the one arm cordeon system on lean soils with a clay and limestone content. Each of the 10 - 40 yr old vines yield just 1kg of grapes. Harvesting is in September and the grapes are destemmed and gently crushed upon reception at the winery before a 20 day fermentation in contact with the skins in stainless steel. Malo-lactic fermentation is performed in barrique, where the wine ages for 14 months before bottling with no filtration and a further 12 months in bottle before release. Only 3000 bottles made.
Appearance:Intense red
Aromas:Full, concentrated nose packed full of ripe black cherry, jammy blackcurrant and vanilla oak
Palate:The palate is medium to full bodied with an excellent concentration of baked black fruits and elements of roasted almonds. Posesses a defining, balancing structure and a firm finish with engaging length.
Serving Notes:An excellent choice to partner most types of game - try it with carpaccio of duck with olive oil and black pepper, pheasant, quail or a full bodied wild boar and mushroom risotto with plenty of parmesan.

Azienda Agricola San Valentino

San Valentino is a small winery, purchased by the current owner, Roberto Mascarin in 1990 and had its first commercial vintage in 1997. Situated in the hills behind Rimini, in the south of the region close to the border with the Marche, the estate covers 14 hectares, 7 of which are in production and the remaining 7 have been planted this year, almost entirely devoted to red wine production. In 2000 Roberto hired the services of Fabrizio Moltard, one of the youngest and most dynamic Italian wine consultants, to help in the wine production but also crucially in the vineyards.
