| Cellar Notes: | It is satisfying to find a Châteauneuf-du-Pâpe that is true to style and offers very high quality whilst remaining very good value for money. It is rich and jam-packed with juicy fruit, balanced oak, lovely pepper and spice notes and tannins that will soften and fade as the wine ages. Surges of powerful velvety dark fruit, supported by ripe tannin. Hints of coffee and spice add complexity. |
| Appearance: | Exhibits a dark ruby/purple colour |
| Aromas: | Concentrated notes of black cherries and cassis |
| Palate: | Full body and rich. The powerful young fruit acquire rich, toasty flavors which develop into a wine of considerable finesse and elegance. The tannin structure remains present and complex, which ensures that our wines have enormous ageing potential. |
| Serving Notes: | Lamb dishes, cheese |
Vineyard Notes: Domaine Berthet Rayne http://www.berthet-rayne.fr/
Run by Christian Berthet Rayne, this is a 22 hectare estate based in Courthezon, next door to Beaucastel. It has the typical stony terroir. 10 different grape varieties are planted, with Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault being used for the reds. Low yields of 35hl/ha, the grapes are picked and sorted by hand, modern cellar - temperature is automatically regulated. Very natural approach in the vineyard - no weedkillers, weeds ploughed back in. Will be certified organic for 2007 vintage. Regular gold medal winner, for 2006 gold from Faire d'Orange with 'Felicitations de Jury'. Tasting: surge of powerful velvety dark fruit, supported by ripe tannin. Hints of coffee and spice add complexity.
