Cellar Notes:Produced from clay and limestone soils dominated by Keuper which confer a powerful style to the wine. The remarkable richness and depth of this wine is partly due to a special soil based on marl and limestone. It comes from the ancestral vineyards of the lords of Ribeaupierre and the grapes are never picked before they have reached maximum ripeness. It is only made in exceptional years. Trimbach is based in the village of Ribeauvillé, which is in the shadow of the mediaeval castle of Ribeaupierre, after which the wine is named. The grapes are harvested at maximum ripeness from selected parcels of old Gewurztraminer vines in calcareous marl soils below the castle, from both the Osterberg and Hunawihr Grands Crus. Only the best vintages are labelled as this cuvée which is aged in large oval oak vats to add complexity before bottling. Almost ready to drink now, and 10 + more years.
Appearance:Yellow green in colour.
Aromas:Redolent of roses, lychees and spices.
Palate:This immensely rich Gewurztraminer is so unctuous and viscous when young that it can seem slightly sweet even though it is fermented almost dry. This massive body is balanced by an almost chalky fresh minerality and extract with a result that the wine boasts the elegance and finesse which are the Trimbach trademark.
Serving Notes:This long-lived wine makes a fascinating aperitif but truly comes into its own with foie gras or desserts based on fresh ripe fruit. It is simultaneously rich, powerful and dry and is consequently a brilliant match for spicy, complex, Asian and North African food.

Vineyard Notes:

The Trimbach family has been involved in making wine since 1626 and has, over thirteen generations, built an enviable reputation for the quality of its entire range. From the Pinot Blanc through to the iconic Clos Sainte Hune Riesling, the wines are considered the benchmark for quality, consistency and style.

The essence of Trimbach, with the obvious exception of the luscious dessert wines, is the traditional dry style in which the wines are made. Many Alsace houses are today making rather clumsy wines with an element of sweetness that detracts from their food matching suitability; not so with Trimbach, whose wines are pure, vibrant and refreshing. It is no accident that the Trimbach wines are listed in every single one of the 26 Michelin Three Star restaurants in France, and are present on the very best restaurant wine lists across the globe.
